SCAM ALERT!

Scammers are using my name to try to defraud aspiring authors and others

I’ve become aware that people (particularly aspiring authors) are receiving emails – supposedly from me – with offers to help them with their writing and asking for personal information or payment.

This is a scam! I never contact people in this way. If you’ve received one of these emails, please do not respond and report it as phishing/fraud to your email service provider.

Likewise, if someone claiming to be me messages you out of the blue on social media or a messaging app with offers of ‘writing services’ or asking for any personal/financial information, do not respond and report immediately.

Scammers are getting more and more sophisticated, and may even engage in lengthy email conversations before asking for money or personal info. Don’t be fooled – I never ask for this kind of information!

In the UK, if you have been a victim of fraud, you can report it to the National Cyber Security Centre:  https://www.ncsc.gov.uk/collection/phishing-scams/report-scam-email

You can also report fraud to Action Fraud at:

My publisher has some more information on how to avoid and report fraud here.

Stay safe!
